Christian Yelich, born December 5, 1991, in Thousand Oaks, California, is an American professional baseball outfielder who plays left field for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball.[1][2][3][4] Drafted 23rd overall by the Florida Marlins in 2010 out of Westlake High School, he debuted in the majors on July 23, 2013, at age 21, going 2-for-4 against the Colorado Rockies.[1][3][7] Yelich spent his first five seasons (2013-2017) with the Miami Marlins, emerging as a defensive standout by winning the National League Gold Glove Award in 2014 as the youngest Marlins player to do so; he batted .284 with 21 stolen bases that year.[1][2][3] In 2016, he earned a Silver Slugger Award and Marlins MVP honors.[3] Traded to the Brewers before the 2018 season, he exploded offensively, hitting 36 home runs, winning the NL batting title (.326), and capturing the NL MVP Award with 29 of 30 first-place votes—his first year in Milwaukee.[1][3] Key achievements include three Silver Slugger Awards (2016, 2018-2019), two NL batting titles (2018, 2019), two All-Star selections, a second-place MVP finish in 2019, and a Gold Glove.[1][3] He won the 2017 World Baseball Classic with Team USA and, in 2022, became the sixth player in history to hit for the cycle three times.[1] After the 2019 season, Yelich was the only MLB player with back-to-back seasons of .325+ average, 35+ homers, and 20+ steals.[2] In March 2020, he signed a long-term extension with the Brewers.[2] As of 2025, the active 33-year-old ranks among NL leaders in runs, hits, batting average, and stolen bases, with career totals through that season including a .285 average, 233 homers, 851 RBIs, and 221 steals over 6,108 at-bats.[1][3] Recent highlights: On May 5, 2025, he played his 1,500th game, homering and stealing a base; May 27 featured his first walk-off grand slam; and May 26-June 1 earned NL Player of the Week.[2] The Brewers finished 2025 at 97-65, atop their division.[4]
